Conclusion & Notes
The sparkles were done quickly so I’m sure you can do a better, more coordinated job.
For a Jasper Goodall style of smoke, instead of using a spectrum gradient, individually colour the smoke layer by layer using Colour Balance ⌘B

Outstanding! Something I’ve been looking for all over the internet! Many thanks Cixxy!
No prob mate. You should reply to the tutorial wishlist if you got any requests like that
Thanks, I’ll bare in mind, exquisite job, i think one of the best I’ve ever seen
I was just starting, I thank you very useful help
Thanks Ren, very well executed (and refreshingly short video without any repetition).
I also liked the last step with the high pass as a soft light – a method that i surely can use in many other works, too.
….. Now I just need PS cs5 =)
Hey,
I got a question and hoped that u might be able to help me.
Look, u used that colorful gradient on the entire Image – but is there a way to … kinda “link” it to the unicorn ONLY – not to the stars and what not?
- now i know i could change the hirachy, but that wont work out in every case. And if I merge the layers, the gradient becomes totally visible and looses its layer mode.
So how the hell can i colorize the horse and leave the rest as it is?
Thanks in advance, bye
Hey infested, thanks for the great comments
Sure, you can use a clipping mask. First, merge all the unicorn layers so you just have 1 layer for the smoke, then put the gradient layer right above of the smoke layer and make a clipping mask. You can ALT click between the layers.
if that doesnt work cause the layers are set to lighten or something you can also Shift + ctrl click on the unicorn layers’ thumbnails to get a whole selection of the unicorn and use that selection as a mask.
nice one! its really cool! keep it up! just want to know, if i can also achieve this using PS CS3? im gonna give it a try..
awsome creation. it’s just more than superb man.
i like this tut very much i always thought that you needed a differnt kind of brust font to do this so thank you.
Hey,
Awesome tutorial, and got all the way through it but there was one part that confused me around the 7:50 mark. You said to merge everything( I ended up using apply image and continued) but on the video it looks like you have a masked layer on one of the merged layers? Im just curious whats going on right there:)
Thanks,
Matthew
hola
I am finding it difficult to actually do what the tutorial shows, but the steps are not cleared, like when to add a layer, how to etc. I tried doing this, but I couldn’t understand a thing.
